The Doctor's Remedy

Dr. Selbert recently returned from Denmark, where he gave a presentation at Rosenborghus. Here is how it was covered in the News Express:

At the reception for NXP founder Jørn Thulstrup's 70th birthday this week, Dr. Roger Selbert, Principal of the California-based Growth Strategies Group and an acknowledged futurist and trend expert, said that although the Democratic Party in the USA sees Denmark as a model of social organization, he doesn't believe that the Danish system would work in his native country. He also said that as an American who actually knows something about Denmark (he studied here and has often visited the country in an advisory capacity), he found himself often having to explain to people that Danes aren't the "happiest people in the world," as claimed by the media. "I would say content or, more accurately, resigned to their situation; in other words, the key to perceived happiness must be to lower your expectations!" he said, causing much amusement amongst members of the diplomatic community.

He added that despite the fact no one is happy in the US right now because of the mountain of debt, a budget deficit that has spiraled out of control, and a political system controlled by the Chicago political machine, he remains optimistic that the 21st century, just like the 20th, will belong to America. "There is only one way forward and that's economic growth," he said. "And the only way to generate sustainable economic growth is through free-market capitalism. That's why the US, with its adaptability, flexibility, responsiveness, entrepreneurship, stable political institutions, and human and material resources, will remain the economic engine of coming decades, and a nation that will always overcome the inadequacies of its leaders and the foibles of its citizens."
